Securus Acquires JPay Inc.

In 2015, Securus Technologies purchased JPay, a leading technology firm that specialized in the development of entertainment and educational apps as well as electronic payment systems. At the time of purchase, the firm operated in more than 33 federal and state correctional facilities. The deal strengthened Securus Technologies as the fastest growing organization in the prison technology provision segment.Rick Smith stated that the deal would help Securus Technologies in the provision of prisoners’ tablets, emails, and video as well as ease payments. The CEO also explained how the deal would assist them to obtain equity funding and approvals from relevant regulatory authorities. After the merge, Smith assumed the role of running the company as Securus Technologies’ wholly owned subsidiary.
