Strategic positioning has been the hallmark of OSI Food Solutions’ success in the fiercely competitive processed and value-added food products markets. Over the years, the company has strategically positioned itself in the market through the acquisition of advantageously placed businesses that have increased their responsiveness to customer demands. This has expanded their operations to new locations. One such addition survived the 2016 Baho Food. The purchase will enable OSI Food Solutions operational imprint in up to 18 countries in Europe including the Netherlands and Germany where Baho Foods has two food processing plants in addition to five subsidiaries. In addition to the expected operational and financial windfall expected from a broader operational footprint in Europe and processing capacity, the acquisition of Baho Food will enable OSI to expand its product lines to include snacks. The move to expand operations to new markets was further boosted by the acquisition Flagship Europe: a UK-based foodservice supplier specializing in a wide range of value-added and processed foods and food dressings such as sauces, frozen poultry, mayonnaise, and pies. The deal completed in 2016 almost meant that Calder Foods, which had been acquired by Flagship Europe, became one of the many OSI brands. To further cement its position as one of Europe’s leading supplier of processed foods, OSI Food Solutions also invested millions of dollars in a chicken processing plant in Toledo, Spain, in 2017. The investment is projected to double the company’s processing capacity to meet an ever-growing demand. OSI Food Solutions also broadened its operations and food production capacity in the United States by acquiring a processing plant in Chicago, Illinois, previously owned by Tyson Foods.
Environmentally-conscious Management Practices
OSI Food Solutions has embarked on an ambitious plan of becoming a market leader not only processed and valued-added foods supply but also in implementing environmentally friendly management practices. This commitment has seen the company win the coveted Globe of Honour and Sword of Honour Awards. The awards were presented to company executives by British Safety Council at the 2015 award gala. In 2016, the company repeated the rare feat by winning Globe Honour for the third having also won it in 2013.
